George Foley: Music Born in America

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) and the Medina County District Library present Cleveland-based musician George Foley on Thursday, May 7, 2026 6:30 –7:30 pm at the Medina County District Library, Medina location at 210 South Broadway Street, Medina, OH 44256.

About the Musician:

George Foley started playing ragtime at the age of 13. He received most of his musical education at the Cleveland Music School Settlement, where he studied piano, theory, composition and jazz improvisation. He attend the College of Wooster, where he hosted a weekly ragtime radio show and played piano for the Wooster Jazz Ensemble. He was awarded the Charles V. Rychlik Composition Award by the Cleveland Music School Settlement for his “Chinatown Rag” in 1974. He released his first album “Cleveland Rag” on Century-Advent Records in 1977. It was re-issued on the Jazzology label in 1980.
George is a pianist who specializes in rags and stride piano style. He will share the story of the evolution of jazz through the early part of the twentieth century while performing this uniquely American art form as a part of the 250 th American anniversary celebration.
