Over 27 performers, both soloists and small groups, will be featured in the “Spotlight Showcase” being presented by The Medina County Arts Council this coming week in Broadway Hall in Medina. The singers, instrumentalists, dancers, and special acts come from communities all over the county and will be introduced on stage by MC Scott Sabol, Fox 8 Weatherman and Medina resident. The production is scheduled for Friday, November 20, with a curtain time of 8 p.m. The Broadway Hall auditorium is in the County Administration Building at 144 N. Broadway Street.
There will be great variety in the performances, from a contemporary Irish music group, to a Bluegrass Band, a father and son guitar and vocal performance, several vocal solos, two dance numbers, and a comedy act.
Included in the list of vocal and instrumental soloists are Jim Gill of Seville, Donna Bica of Medina, Linda Ingram of Seville, Robert Pearson of Medina, Tony Rump of Medina, and Jenny Geissman of Lodi. Northeast Ohio Dance students from Wadsworth, under the direction of Brenda Stygar, former dancer with Ohio Ballet, will perform two numbers.
The new Irish group from Brunswick, called “Craic”, will feature Jeff Velick, Nikki Wolfe, Mitch Kozub, Jonathon Olszewski, Eric Rom, Tim Clausing, and Brett M. Burlison. “The Black River Bluegrass Band” will include Scott Hennis, Rich Capicioni, Ricky Wood, and Mike Todd.
Retired Medina County Library director Mike Harris and his college student son Jon Harris of Sharon Center will play their guitars and Jon will also sing. Also on the program are performances by the three finalists from the Medina County Idol Contest, Justin Johnston, Kasey Kyner, and Nick Miller. After hearing the contestants in Act One, the audience will vote during intermission to select the winner. The winner will be announced at the end of the show.
Directing the production is Linda Ingram of Seville. Accompanist for the evening will be Medina’s Carey Knox, and Mike Todd of Spencer is the Tech Director. Debbie Destro of Brunswick is the Stage Manager.
The Arts Council promotes this fundraising performance to give individual, local. performing artists the chance to become more widely known to the general public. The evening will also provide information about arts activities scheduled for the rest of the season by arts organizations around the county.
Early attendees on Saturday will have the opportunity to enjoy the Candlelight Walk festivities around Public Square which are slated for the late afternoon and dinner hour until 7:30 p.m.
Council Trustees describe the show, as “a fun, fundraiser,” and they have kept ticket prices in an affordable range - $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Extra support for the event has been secured from local businesses and individuals through program ads, patron contributions, and in-kind donations. Money raised will go toward a major goal of the Council - increased funding for grants to county non-profit arts organizations and special arts activities.
The Trustees recognize that along with the growth of Medina County, the need to increase funds available for grants to local arts activities has become a development “must” for the trustees. Performers are both individual artists who either make a living in the arts or perform for sheer pleasure, and those who work with one or more county arts organizations.
Tickets are being sold at Buehlers stores in Brunswick, Wadsworth, and Medina, and at Gramercy Gallery and Miss Molly’s Tea Room in Medina. Tickets will be sold at the door as available.
