Arts Week is On, Virtually!

This year, while most summer events are cancelled or postponed, you can watch local artists perform live from the comfort of your home!

Join us for Virtual Arts Week from July 13-17, 2020 to be aired live daily at noon and at 7:30 pm. These presentations will highlight local talent in action and help promote the Medina County Arts Council mission to Advocate for, Support, and Nurture the Arts in Medina County.

More details about the artists, performances, and ways to watch the events will be shared in the July ArtsViews newsletter and on our website.

An Opportunity for You

If you’re an artist, performer, or arts organization and would like to contribute a video to be featured during Arts Week, email it along with your name, phone number, and description to medinacoartscouncil@gmail.com by June 26. You will be contacted if your video is selected.

The video can be anything arts related, informative, and interesting, such as
• a tour and history of your community’s architecture
• a demonstration of a particular painting technique
• a demonstration of a particular musical instrument
• a tap dancing class
• a how-to video of crafts or works of art
• an art teacher highlighting the work of students
• a church choir or handbell performance

The selected videos will be shown during Arts Week along with the featured live performances. Please share this newsletter if you know someone in Medina County that would be interested in submitted a video.

Angels in the Arts

In this year of uncertainty, we have all been affected by loss and separation in some way; but these times have challenged us to get more creative than ever before and rise to the occasion when we can.

The Medina County Arts Council has cancelled our annual fundraising event in June, the Summer Soiree. But we still want to continue to support artists and arts organizations in Medina County in some way.

If you are able, please consider giving a one-time donation to MCAC even though we cannot thank you in person or celebrate your kindness.

Virtual Summer Concert

The Medina Community Band presents their first virtual Summer Band Concert on the Medina Community Band website as a celebration of 161 years (since 1859) of presenting community concerts in Medina.

The virtual concert includes program notes and pictorial narrations featuring selections of concert recordings from 2009 through 2019 including Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “March from Folk Songs from Somerset”  taken from his “English Folk Song Suite;”  Earl Hagen’s “Harlem Nocturne” for alto saxophone and band, featuring Medina’s Thomas Lempner; Sousa’s march “The Volunteer;” Leroy Anderson’s “The Typewriter,” featuring City of Medina Mayor Dennis Hanwell; and, Hector Berlioz’s “Rákóczy March from the Damnation of Faust.” The concert will begin with the National Anthem and end with the National March.

Marcus L. Neiman, conductor of the band will be assisted by past associate conductors Frank Cosenza and Edward Lichtenberg.  For more virtual events happening in our communities, click here.

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) opens its 10th anniversary of Jazz under the Stars with the Joe Leaman Jazz Trio streamed live on June 6 at 7 pm.  To stream this event live, visit our Facebook page at  https://www.facebook.com/Ormaco.Inc/.

Leaman is an in-demand pianist, percussionist and instructor in the Northeast Ohio region. He has been seen with local artists Jack Schantz, Helen Welch, Dave Morgan, and has performed with the bands Special Request, Charita Franks, and Axon Neuron just to name a few.

Joe is currently the Music and Worship Director for Montrose Zion United Methodist Church in Bath, and is the keyboard specialist at Woodsy's Music in Kent. He also holds a bachelor's degree in Music Performance from The University of Akron. He also assists with many ORMACO outreach programs.

Dining For the Arts

“Dining For The Arts” reservations will be made online this fall. You can chose to dine with your host and a few guests or have your dinners delivered to your home to share with family and friends. And, if you’re a culinary artist, you can chose to make dinners for the hosts or for home deliveries.

If you wish to host a tea party, brunch, or dinner event in your home, or want to help cook the dinners, please email us and we’ll help you get it planned. Events can be scheduled anytime before May 31, 2021 and will begin this fall.
