On the Road Again!

Spring is finally here … and Covid restrictions are loosening, so the Medina County Arts Council is going on the road at local events across the county to increase awareness of our mission and programs. Join us on Friday, May 7 from 7-8 pm at Town Square Commons, 23 Public Square in Medina for as part of Medina’s 1st Friday event.

May 28- Music at the Arboretum- Laura Varcho (Vocals): Tunes from the American Songbook, Secrest Arboretum Amphitheater, 2122 Williams Road, Wooster, OH 44691, 6:30-8:30 pm. Free. Specializing in brilliant interpretations of select jazz and popular standards. In the event of rain, the concert will be held at Fisher Auditorium, 1680 Madison Avenue, Wooster, OH 44691. June 5- Jazz under the Stars: SoundEVER with Daniel Spearman (Trumpet): ORMACO opens its 11th season of Jazz under the Stars with Oberlin-based musician Daniel Spearman and his band SoundEVR at 7 pm in Medina’s Uptown Park. The ensemble will perform a mix of original compositions along with songs from the American Songbook, arranged to fit the high energy style of the band. The band draws heavily from the Hard Bop style of Jazz from the 1960s, led by artists such as Art Blakey and Lee Morgan. SoundEVR will combine those sounds with dance music of the 1980s to create a sonic experience unique to this band.

Medina County Arts Council (MCAC) is a non-profit organization committed to advocating for, supporting, and nurturing the arts in Medina County. Through our programs, we strive to …

1. support the arts in our schools,

2. provide grants to artists and arts organizations,

3. offer scholarships to high school seniors,

4. showcase local artists through the annual Arts Week Festival,

5. and coordinate outreach activities throughout the county.

MCAC is growing beyond our current resources. This year alone, we received $12,000 in grant requests but could only award $3,000; and we received 15 student applications but could only provide only one $1,000 scholarship.

This year, we’re launching the “Medina County Arts Council Partnership” campaign so we can serve more needs. We’re seeking at least 20-$500 business and corporate sponsors from across the county. You could provide nine more scholarships, funding for more grant requests from arts organizations hit hard by the pandemic, or additional resources for school programs and artists.
