Student Art Show

The Medina County Arts Council joined the Medina County Arts Foundation, Main Street Medina, Huntington Bank, and Medina City Schools to support the 2021 Annual Medina County Student Art Show that runs through Mar. 29 in Medina. The awards, sponsored by MCAC, include Best in Show ($50 award for each school category), and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons. A $50 donation was also made to the Medina Co. Juvenile Detention Center.

The 2021 Art Show judges, all professional visual artists and MCAC Arts in Schools Committee reps, include Kathy Staufer-chair, Craig Staufer, Elaine Lamb, Bobbie Foy, Paulette Grubb, and George Sam. It was difficult to select “the best” entries for the Medina County Student Art Show because all of the students expressed talent and have the potential to excel in the Arts.

Judging art is subjective to the judges' point of view but includes criteria such as age, interpretation of the project, attention to detail, use of materials, innate use of design principles, and individual style.

MCAC Annual Meeting Results

The MCAC Annual Meeting was held on Feb. 17 with a review of 2020 and and presentation of goals for 2021. 2020 grant recipients presented their project results included Camp Paradise (pictured above) and Wadsworth Community Radio. New Trustee Jane Back

At the Annual Meeting, the trustees elected Jane Back to the MCAC Board of Trustees. Jane has been a K-12 language arts teacher for the last 20 years. She has also been a business owner in Medina County and raised 3 children with her husband Steve.

After coordinating several community events in Sharon Township for nine years, she founded the non-profit “Access the Arts “ as an outreach to provide free programs in the arts to underserved groups. She is happy to be a part of the Medina County Arts Council because she values the arts as a way to unite the community and to provide healing and joy to those who need it most.

Following the MCAC Annual Meeting, trustees held elections for the 2021 slate of officers and trustees up for renewal. 2021 officers include Linda Loveless-president, George Sam-vice president, Dan Hostetler-secretary, and Aimee Adams-treasurer.

Scholarship Apps Due Mar 15

The Medina County Arts Council will award one $1,000 scholarship to a Medina County graduating senior who has been actively involved in the arts during high school and are continuing their education at a technical school, 2-year, or 4-year institution. A major in the arts is not required to be eligible.

The scholarship may be used toward tuition, books, or other school supplies. The scholarship must be used during the school year immediately following the award. Submissions must be received or postdated no later than 11:59 p.m., Monday, March 15, 2021.

Virtual Events

ORMACO continues its FREE streamed concert series with Americana group Any Road on March 14 @ 2:00 pm. Any Road’s program will consist of a discussion of the history of American music which is broadly classified under the umbrella term of “Americana.” See a full calendar of events here.
