#GivingTuesday Opportunity

#GivingTuesday is the annual global movement that serves as the unofficial kick-off to the most generous season of the year. You can give to any charity during the month of November.

This year, the Medina County Arts Council is thrilled to announce that Mack Industries has agreed to match, dollar for dollar, the first $1,500 in gifts received between now and #GivingTuesday, held this year on Dec. 1.

That means that the impact of your gift will be doubled thanks to the generosity of Mack Industries!

In 2021, with your help, MCAC wants to …

  • Expand our grant and scholarship programs to assist more organizations and individuals,

  • Increase our Arts Week offerings for even more arts experiences for your family,

  • Support local artists with increased exposure,

  • And, ensure school children have the tools and opportunities to develop a healthy appreciation for the arts.

So please consider renewing your commitment to the arts on Medina County in honor of #GivingTuesday. As we head into the holiday season, we wish you and your family health and happiness, and a wonderful new year!

Up for a Challenge?

Do you go all out for the holidays, covering your home with dancing lights or animated characters and festive songs blaring?

Enter your home or nominate a neighbor, family, or friend’s home in the “Deck The House” Holiday Lights Challenge sponsored by the Medina County Arts Council and Medina County Convention & Visitors Bureau to encourage and highlight the artistic creativity of Medina County homeowners and reward residents who go above and beyond to celebrate the holiday season and share their talents with the community.

Anyone can vote for their favorite display between Nov. 27 and Dec. 20. A Facebook Live event during the week of December 20 will surprise the winning family with a visit from Santa and presentation of the coveted Deck the House Lighting Contest light bulb trophy. Watch Facebook posts for the date and time of the Live Event.

When so many holiday traditions are canceled because of COVD, a driving tour of the Deck The House homes will provide a festive and safe way to celebrate the holidays. So throw the jammies on the kids, grab their blankies and snacks, and pack into the car to tour the county in search of the best holiday lighting display. Then you can vote for your favorites.

Maps with listings and locations of the entries will be available on our website or Facebook page beginning November 27.
 

Kids Holiday Craft Pop-Up Shop

Want a free holiday craft for your kids to take home and make? Bring your children over to the Medina County Arts Council Pop-Up Shop at 129 North Court Street, Medina Centre for Dance Arts building to choose from a greeting card, chalkboard ornament, Santa mask, or pine cone tree.

Along with a craft, each child can chose a sticker to place on the 5 foot tall construction paper tree shown here to share on Facebook. Learn more.

The pop-up shop will be opened every Saturday, from Nov. 21 through Dec. 19 from 2 pm until 4 pm. A limited number of families will be permitted inside at one time to comply with social distancing measures and masks are required.

Medina Community Band:
Virtual Veterans Day Concert

The Medina Community Band will continue with a virtual concert celebrating 161 years of presenting community concerts in Medina since 1859 .

The Medina Community Band, under the baton of Marcus Neiman, conductor; John Connors, associate conductor; and, Matthew Hastings, assistant conductor will present its annual Veterans Day Concert – “Saluting Our Essential Workers” beginning early November on the Medina Community Band website.

Welcome speeches from the concert organization committee, Mayor Dennis Hanwell, City of Medina; Rev. Father Anthony Sejba, St. Francis Xavier Church; Edward Zachary, director, Medina County Veterans Service Office; Lu Ann Gresh , president, Medina Community Band Association, and Marcus L. Neiman, conductor Medina Community Band, have been posted.

The Medina County Chorus, under the direction of Jordan Saul with Cathy Fafrak, keyboard accompaniment, will be our featured ensemble for the virtual concert. Medina Community Band will perform Emblem of Unity March (John J. Richards); Give Me Your Tired (Emma Lazarus); E Pluribus Unum March (Frederick Jewell); Americana Salute (Morton Gould); Armed Forces Salute (arr. Robert Lowden); God Bless America (Irving Berlin); and The Stars and Stripes Forever (John Philip Sousa).

 

ORMACO Presents …

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) continues its live streamed concert series with Flutist Janet Becker on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020, 2 pm and the Lempner Duo (saxophone and guitar) with a program of Christmas classics and other holiday and Hanukkah songs presented in a swing style on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, 2 pm.
